Released on May 9, 2025, Counting Crows fans were treated to the expansion of the Butter Miracle EP into a full-length LP. After years of waiting for new material, I am not disappointed at all with this album.
I’ve been a fan of the Crows since they changed the music world with August and Everything After. Recovering the Satellites was the perfect companion, cementing the sound of a decade.
Adam’s lyrical genius, combined with the Crows’ unique and easy-to-digest sound, makes this yet another enjoyable listen in their discography.
The album starts off nostalgic, both lyrically and musically. Immediately, the sound has my foot tapping along with the beat, and I’m transported to the 1990s.
Halfway through the first song, and I’m hooked. It’s familiar—like going back to your hometown. The setup provides a great foundation for the album, as I already want more.
We’re getting autobiographical Adam in full force.
“So I stay in your thoughts when I’m out of my mind”
“If you come for the memories, I leave you this song”
By the end of “With Love, From A-Z,” I’ve fallen back in tune with a band that 20-year-old Jason loved to listen to. The guitars, heavy keys, driving bass, and ever-present drums create the full band sound that I have come to miss.
This album is the Crows’ sound I signed up for. I hang on each sentence, anticipating the next verse. It’s enthralling. I want a second listen before each song ends.
And we get a new friend: Virginia. We knew more were out there, waiting—leaving the listener with emotions of longing and desire, conveyed with depth and sincerity.
Thank you, Crows. We needed this.
